Wireless Network Access Update

In the Fall 2007 semester, wireless network access became available at the Newport and Warwick campuses and at the Liston campus in Spring 2008 .  Since January 2008, over 1200 students have registered to use the CCRI wireless network.  On average there are over 100 users on the network at the same time.

This service allows members of the college community to access CCRI services, like Pipeline, as well as resources on the internet from portable computers with wireless network cards.   Wireless access enhances the learning environment for students, faculty and staff by providing connectivity to electronic resources from anywhere on campus. As an example, the addition of wireless laptop carts creates flexible, just-in-time learning spaces within existing science labs enabling the use of technology for lab experiments and problem solving. Additionally, students with laptops can now gather in any comfortable location to collaborate and extend their learning outside of the classroom.

Wireless access for the Lincoln campus will be available for the Fall 2008 semester.

Our wireless project is supported by funding from the CCRI Foundation and Governor Carcieri’s math and science initiatives.

Additional information about wireless access can be found on the Information Technology web page under Wireless Computing Initiative.
