Required Hardware

To ensure network reliability and security, network management software Campus Manager was installed and configured during the Summer 2007. All users are required to authenticate to the network with their Pipeline account once a semester.  Authentication is the process of validating users as authorized to use various resources on the wireless network.  Some of the campus resources includes connecting to the shared drives to access personal files, connecting to the campus servers for running applications and printing.  If you experience difficulties with your username and password, please contact the CCRI Helpdesk at (401) 825-1112.

Users affiliated with CCRI without Pipeline accounts will be allowed to login as Guest and access the Internet. 

For your notebook, handheld, and tablet PCs to communicate over the wireless network, they will need to support the wireless LAN protocol called Wi-Fi (or 802.11). Many of today's computers come fully equipped with integrated network cards that are Wi-Fi compliant and supports 802.11 a/b/g standard, which will work with the CCRI wireless network infrastructure.

Wireless network cards that are not IEEE 802.11a/b/g compliant (such as "Bluetooth" cards) will not work.

If your laptop does not have a built-in network card to access the wireless network, you can quickly and easily install one. Network cards slip into the PC card slot on a laptop computer.  Please make sure to purchase a network card that is Wi-Fi compliant that supports 802.11 a/b/g standard.
