To uninstall IE7 and restore Internet Explorer 6 when using Windows XP:

If you cannot find IE7 in Add or Remove Programs, click Start, click Run, type C:\windows\IE7\spuninst\spuninst.exe, and then press ENTER.

Note: If this does not work, you may have your windows files stored somewhere other than the default directory (C:\windows). Substitute %windir% in place of C:\windows in the above command string. To do this, you need to have "view hidden folders" enabled.

Will my settings get moved over from IE6 when I upgrade to IE7?

IE7will keep your current toolbars, home page, search settings, and favorites. Installing IE 7 will not change your choice of default browser

What will happen to my Favorites if I install IE7?

Your current list of favorites in IE6 will migrate into the new browser; you are not required to re-add your favorite websites.

Can I install IE7on a Macintosh?

Technically Internet Explorer can be running on a Macintosh that runs Windows with Bootcamp. However, IE7 will not run natively in any version of Mac OS 8.x, 9.x, 10.x, etc.

What is Phishing?

A technique utilized by numerous malicious website operators, sometimes called spoofing to gather your personal information. It is made up of bogus websites and emails that appear legitimate sites such as eBay, Amazon.com or popular banks and try to steal your personal information (credit card or social security number). IE7 has an automatic phishing filter to notify you whenever you arrive at one of these websites and keep your information safe.

To enable the Phishing Filter:

Scroll down to the bottom of the window and select "Turn on automatic website checking" under Phishing Filter.

Close the window by clicking on Apply and then OK . The Phishing Filter is now enabled.

What is an "Invalid Certificate" warning ?

A web site certificate is a security tool that helps ensure, among other things, that a web site is accurately represented (web address, or URL, expiration date, and certifying authority who verified this website was actually who they said they are). A warning in IE7 that a certificate is invalid may be the result of the certificate not being up-to-date, or it may indicate an actual security problem. As a result, IE will automatically block you from accessing the site

The menu changed, where can I find all the options I use in Internet Explorer 6?

IE7 has put less clutter on the screen. Most of the menu functions are available from the buttons on the right side of the screen.

The buttons are: 1. Home, 2. RSS Feeds, 3. Print, 4. Page, and 5. Tools.

How can I change the menu headers back to "Classic"?

Right click in the menu bar area in IE7 and choose Menu Bar to enable classic menu headers.

I cannot see the File menu, Why?

To maximize website viewing, the File menu is hidden by default. As a rule menu options can be launched from the toolbar.

How do I turn on the customizable Links menu bar?

Right click on the menu bar area in IE7 and choose Links to turn on the customizable Links bar.

Where is the refresh button in IE7?

The green button located to the right of the address bar at the top of the browser (see below):

Nothing happens when I click on a link, why?

When you click on a new link the browser opens the new page in a new tab, instead of a new window or displaying the new page in the original window. Look for a new tab to the right of the original window tab.

I have a visual impairment does IE have any accessibility features that will help?

Yes, the Zoom feature which enlarges everything on the screen.

To Zoom a webpage in IE:

  1. On the bottom right of the Internet Explorer screen, click the arrow to the right of the Change Zoom Level button.
  2. Do one of the following:
    1. to go to a predefined zoom level, click the percentage of enlargement or reduction you want
    2. to specify a custom level, click Custom. In the Percentage zoom box, type a zoom value, and then click OK
