Viruses on CCRI Computers
The majority of faculty and staff computers are protected from viruses with the Norton AntiVirus V 5.0 software.
If a virus has been detected and quarantined, please follow the steps outlined below:
Empty the Quarantine folder
Start the Norton AntiVirus program by clicking on Start button, click Programs, click Norton AntiVirus Corporate Edition then click the Norton icon.
Click View then select Quarantine

Select the file or group of files

Click on the Red X icon
Click Start Delete

"Succeeded" will then appear in the box
Click Close
You will be returned to Norton's main page and under View, click on Backup Items:

Select the file or group of files
Click on the Red X icon
Click Start Delete

"Succeeded" will then appear in the box
Click Close
Click Close again
Click Exit
If a virus cannot be removed from your computer and assistance is needed please call the Help Desk at 1112 with the following information:
Name of the virus if identified.
What action was taken: quarantined or cleaned?
What is the Virus Definition File date found in Norton Antivirus?
Any new software or upgrades recently installed or files downloaded from the Internet?
Information about your computer such as software and hardware configuration, computer type, drives, memory, versions, operating system, device drivers, control panels, etc.
To scan a drive (floppy drive, hard drive or CD drive) using Norton AntiVirus at any time:
Start the Norton AntiVirus program by clicking on the Start button, click Programs, click Norton AntiVirus Corporate Edition then click the Norton Antivirus icon.
Click Scan and the Scan dialog box will appear, select Scan Computer.
The Scan Computer dialog box will appear, check a category of drive(s).
Click Scan .
Note: If you receive a warning message from Norton AntiVirus that a virus is quarantined or cannot be removed from your system, please contact the Help Desk at x1112 immediately.
