Adding a Course using a Publisher's Access Code

If your instructor is using WebCT content created by the publisher of your textbook then you may have an extra step in adding the course to your WebCT account. When your myWebCT screen opens:

Click on the grey Add course button.

Step 2

Courses are arranged in alphabetical order by course code.

Click on the View by category option.

Choose the alphabetical range your course code would fall into under. For example, if you were taking a Computer Studies course where the course code starts with COMI, you would select the C - D category.

To see the full list of courses in any category, click on the grey Update button.

Select your course from the list by clicking on its link.

You should see an icon next to the course title that looks like this: in the Self-registration column that indicates that you can add this course to your account.

If your instructor has turned on self registration and has also chosen to use a publisher WebCT site, you may also have to provide an access code to enter the course. Access codes are usually included with your textbook but may also be purchased separately from the WebCT site.

Note: If you do not see the self registration  icon next to the course title, your instructor has not opened the course yet.

You should see a screen verifying that you have successfully added the course to your account.

In order to enter the course you will have to also type in your access code. If you have purchased a textbook that came with an access code, you will find the number included in the book. Locate the access code number and click on the link that says "I have an Access Code and want to use it now".

If you purchased a text book without an Access code you can still purchase one from WebCT. If this is the case, get your credit card ready and click on the link labeled "I want to purchase an Access Code now".  Just follow the directions on the screen to purchase the appropriate code.

Next you need to type your access code into the box provided and click on the grey Submit button.

Note: WebCT now provides an option to use a Temporary Access code that is good for 15 days. If you choose this option you must purchase a permanent access code at the end of the 15-day period or you will be denied entrance to the course. This grace period falls within the drop-add timeframe. To get to the Temporary Access option you would select the  "I have an Access Code and want to use it now" link and then click on the grey button at the bottom of the window marked Request temporary access.

Warning: Once you've activated  a permanent access code, you cannot be reimbursed if you decide to drop the course.

Once you've put in your access code you will have the option to enter the course. In all future logins all you need to do is to log in to your MyWebCT account and you can access the course from the link in your course list.
