Uploading Your Excel Grade Book into WebCT
Once you've created your roster file in Excel, you need to upload the file to your WebCT course. Remember that you need to upload the text version of your file (.txt for tab-delimited or .csv for comma delimited) not the Excel version (.xls). This text file will be imported into your Manage Student database so it is accessible to the students.

| Step 11 |
WebCT may respond in different ways depending on the
circumstances. The first time you upload this file you will see
WebCT confirm the column names that match those automatically
included in the Manage Student database. For example, First
Name, Last Name and User ID. When you upload the file after
adding new grades each week, you will see WebCT confirming that
it sees a new column. The system should only adjust the database
to show new information. It should leave any existing
information in the course intact. Also note that any grades that
are added by students taking electronic quizzes within WebCT
cannot be adjusted from Excel. |
| Step 12 |
If everything matches correctly, you can click on the grey
Continue button at the bottom of the Import Confirmation screen.
You should see a progress bar as WebCT imports the revised data
into the Manage Students grade book. Note that it may take a
little longer as your grade book file grows from week to week,
especially if you are doing this from home. That's it! Once the grades have been imported into the WebCT Manage Student database your students just click on the My Grades icon and they will see their own grades. Note that if you want to see what a student sees, you must log in from a student account. The My Grades icon won't work if you are logged in as the instructor. |
To add the My Grades Icon:
Click on Add Page or Tool from the menu on the right side of the home page
Under the Student Tools column, click on My Grades
Type in a title that will be easy to understand for the students, like Check My Grades
Click in the box next to On an Organizer Page to select where to display the icon (the default is the Homepage but you can change that if you wish)
Click on the grey Add button at the bottom of the window
That’s it! You should now see the My Grades icon on your course home page
Tip: If students complain that they can't see their latest
grade and you can see the grades in your Manage Students grade book,
check to make sure you released the column.
