1. Click on the Exam/Quizzes icon to access the exam/quiz tool.
2. Start by clicking on the Question database to select/add questions
3. Create a Category folder for each topic in the Question Database
4. Move questions from the publisher test bank into the topic folder
5. Create any additional questions and add to the topic folder (making sure to randomize the answers in the settings)
6. Create the exam in the Quiz Editor
7. Add a question set for each topic area.
8. Choose how many questions should be delivered from each topic set and type in the points for each question.
9. Update the total of points at the bottom of the exam
10. Go to Edit Quiz Settings and set the exam to:
· Deliver one question at a time
· Duration: 60 minutes (or 1 hour)
· Attempts allowed: 1
· Availability dates and times (time is usually 5 minutes before the exam to 5 minutes after the exam hour to allow for problems logging in)
· Skip the selective release and security areas (unless this is an accommodations exam)
· Under Results, choose to Release the score once the quiz has been submitted
· Release Columns – Yes
· Under Student results display, select a., b. f. and i.
· Click Update to save changes to settings
11. Make sure the script to prevent copying and printing of an exam is in the Upper Textblock of the exam by selecting the Edit/Add Upper textblock button from the menu on the right in the Quiz Editor screen. Add the script if it is not there.
Create an Accommodations Exam
12. Once the regular exam is totally complete, create a new exam for accommodations students called Exam #A and base it on the template for the Exam #. This will give you an exact duplicate of the regular exam. Then just go in to the new Exam #A and choose Edit Quiz Settings.
a. Change the duration time to 90 minutes.
b. Click in the Selective Release Release to: area and choose the Select button and click next to each of the student usernames of the students who will be taking the accommodations exam. Click on the Update button to save your changes.
c. Click in the box to Remove this quiz from quiz/survey lists if students do not meet the selective release criteria so that only the accommodations students will see this choice.
13. Go to the course homepage and click next to the icon to the Exam/Quizzes and then click on Edit from the menu on the right. Select both of the exams/quizzes you want to display. Click Continue and then Update to save your changes.
14. Click next to the Exam/Quizzes icon and click on Hide from the menu on the right
The day of the exam make sure you click next to the Exam/Quizzes icon and choose Reveal from the menu on the right so that students will see the icon and can click into the exam.
