Adding Narration to Course Content - It's Easier Than You Think!
Audio is a powerful tool for enhancing learning. In this workshop you
will learn how to add audio narration to a PowerPoint presentation and
display it on your faculty web page, in your WebCT course or your
Pipeline course. You will also learn how to add audio comments to a Word
document that your students can listen to while they are reviewing your
suggestions and changes. In addition, this session will cover using a
free piece of software to create audio files that can be used to make
web-based announcements, add instructions, or just share your thoughts.
We'll also talk about the latest podcasting phenomenon and how it's
being used in higher education. You will be amazed at how easy it is to
add this additional media.

Configuring Your Wireless Laptop to Work on Campus
By Fall 2007, CCRI's Newport and Warwick campuses will offer
wireless access to faculty, staff and students. Initial coverage
areas will include public spaces like the atrium and great hall,
classrooms, the libraries, shared meeting rooms and key office
areas. Wireless access for the Providence and Lincoln campuses is
planned for the Fall 2008 semester. This session will provide
information on configuring your laptop to use the wireless
network. Please bring your laptop with you to this session.

Exploring Word 2007, PowerPoint 2007 and IE 7
Office 2007 is here with a very different look. This session will
present an overview of the changes to Word and PowerPoint 2007 and
discuss how to handle files from students or colleagues who are
using this new version. In addition, we'll explore the changes to
the Internet Explorer interface. All of these programs will be on
the classroom instructor units in the Fall so this workshop will
give you a sneak peak at what's to come.

Searching for Web Treasure - Finding Useful Ready-Made Learning Objects
There is such a wealth of wonderful content available to faculty on the web. There are peer-reviewed teaching and learning materials, electronic databases full of resources, multimedia objects and interactive activities that can be plugged in to enhance your curriculum and even entire curriculum, complete with syllabi available for download. The challenge is twofold - finding the time to search for these treasures and using efficient strategies to uncover the gold. Who better to lead the search than a librarian! Join our experts to find the best enhancements for your courses.
Researching Library Databases
Come to this hands-on session with library staff to work on identifying the databases that would be most useful to you and your students.
Pipeline Course Tools
Pipeline is CCRI's portal providing secure, web-based access to selected administrative and academic records. Faculty may view their teaching schedules, download their class rosters, access student records for advising, and submit final grades. There is also a suite of course tools that makes your interaction with students easier and more productive. This session will focus on the course tools available on the My Courses tab in Pipeline. These include:
- Sending e-mail to your entire class simultaneously (with or without attachments)
- Distributing documents through your Pipeline course (e.g. syllabi, handouts, PowerPoint presentations, etc.)
- Managing a Course Message Board to extend discussion beyond your class
- Sending instant announcements to your students
- Using a course calendar to keep students on track
- Consolidating several sections of a course into a consolidated course for ease of communication and distribution of files
See handouts on all these tasks on the Pipeline Documentation page on the IT website

What's New in CCRI Classroom Technologies?
Have you seen a Sympodium? Do you know what a document camera can
do for you? How about using a presenter to change your PowerPoint
slides while you roam around your classroom? These are just some of
the technologies that are available to faculty to enhance their
teaching. Come to this session to learn about some exciting new
additions to CCRI classrooms, try out some of these technologies,
and explore the new Fall classroom image.
WebCT
WebCT is CCRI's learning management system (LMS) that enables
instructors to create and manage web-based learning activities and
course materials. Some of the WebCT course tools include a bulletin
board, chat room, whiteboard, email, student presentation area,
grade book, quiz/survey tools, interactive calendar, and options for
incorporating and linking content.
Adding Content to a WebCT Course
WebCT allows faculty to add all kinds of content to a
password-protected online course space. Files can be Word documents,
web pages, PowerPoint presentations, resource links, multimedia,
games, graphics, etc. There are no file size limitations and the
content remains in place from semester to semester to allow ongoing
addition and enhancement of materials as the course space grows.
This session will cover the process of adding, linking and
organizing content in WebCT.

Creating Multiple Choice Quizzes
or Anonymous Surveys
One of the strengths of WebCT is the ability to do online assessment.
You can create quizzes that are automatically
graded for students and with scores entered into the electronic grade book.
You can conduct an anonymous electronic student survey that compiles
responses into multiple reports. This session will cover the steps in creating
multiple choice quizzes or surveys
in WebCT. Although there are five different types of question formats
available for WebCT this session will focus on the creation of a
multiple choice quiz. In addition, you will learn how to view quiz
submissions, override grades and generate detailed question
statistics as well as student performance reports.

New WebCT Tools
WebCT has just added two new tools to the online toolbox. SafeAssign
is a plagiarism prevention program that
enables instructors to check papers against billions of source materials
and detect plagiarized content right within their existing teaching and
learning environment. SafeAssign also serves as an educational tool by
creating opportunities to teach students about proper attribution and
citation. Scholar is a free social bookmarking and academic
resource sharing service, customized for education, and integrated with
WebCT. Scholar enables students and faculty to store and classify their
web resources, and then share them with other scholars and leverage
expertise across institutions, across the globe. Join us in exploring
these exciting new additions coming to online learning.
