Hiding Excel Columns and Rows
Have you ever tried to look at specific columns or rows of data that are located far apart from one another on your worksheet? Have you ever scrolled over to a column far to the right on your spreadsheet only to realize that you can no longer identify the row or column because it's too far to the left or top of the sheet? Or maybe you have so much data in the worksheet that it's difficult to focus on the information you care about at the moment. There's an easy way to deal with this in Excel. Simply hide the rows or columns you don’t want to see so you can view just the data you want to work with. When you want to see all your data again, just unhide the rows or columns that are hidden.
To Hide a Row
- Select the row(s) you wish to hide by clicking on the heading cell (identified as 1 in the graphic) of the row (i.e. 1, 2, 3, etc.)
- From the Format menu, choose Row - Hide
To Reveal a Row
- To display hidden rows, select the row above and below the rows you want to display.
- From the Format menu, choose Row - Unhide
To Hide a Column
- Select the column(s) you
wish to hide by clicking on the heading cell (identified as 2
in the above graphic) of the column (i.e. A, B,
C, etc.)
- From the Format menu, choose Column - Hide
To Reveal a Hidden Column
-
To display hidden columns, select the column adjacent to either
side of the columns you want to display.
- From the Format menu, choose Column - Unhide

ARTstor Digital Library Charter Collection
If you've been thinking about increasing the visual impact of your PowerPoint slides over the summer, you may want to check out a wonderful new electronic database of thousands of digital images called ARTstor. The Learning Resources Center has purchased an online subscription to this wonderful collection of images and has made it available from the LRC website so that faculty and students can reach it from on campus or from home. The ARTstor Digital Library Charter Collection documents artistic traditions across many times and cultures and embraces architecture, painting, sculpture, photography, decorative arts, and design as well as many other forms of visual culture. To explore this wonderful resource, go to http://www.ccri.edu/lerc/otheres.htm and then click on the link to ARTstor. Click on the option for Using ARTstor and then click on a button on the left for either Resources for Faculty or take a Tour. CCRI faculty can set up their own folders at ARTstor and keep all the images they've chosen together. Faculty can even create an instant slide show with excellent resolution for viewing in the classroom or allowing online access to the images for your students from anywhere. Enjoy!
