Blocking E-Mail Addresses in Pipeline

Have you ever wished there was a way to block mail messages coming from a specific address from even entering your mailbox? Well, there is! The easiest way to block an address is when you have a message from that address open in your Pipeline e-mail.

Login to your Pipeline account

Click on the email icon to open your e-mail

Scroll through your messages to locate a message from a sender you wish to block and click on that message to open it

If you look to the right of the From: line at the top of  the message you will see the words "Block Address" in bold. To block this recipient from sending you mail in the future, simply click on the Block Address option.

That's it! From now on, every time this sender sends you a message, Pipeline will block its entrance into your account and you'll never see it. The mail server will not send a rejection message back to the sender, it just drops it from the server. Note that this blocking only works within your Pipeline account. If you read your messages primarily in Outlook, this block will have no effect.

To verify if the address does get added to your blocked list:

Login to your Pipeline account

Click on the email icon to open your email

Click on the grey Options tab

Click on the green Block Addresses link. You should see any addresses that have been blocked from your account listed on the right.

Note that if you prefer, you can also block addresses within this screen typing in the full address you wish to have blocked instead of blocking it in the open message..

If you've blocked an address by accident:

Login to your Pipeline account

Click on the email icon to open your email

Click on the grey Options tab

Click on the green Block Addresses link to view the list

Click on the address you blocked by accident

Click on the Remove button

Click OK

The address is no longer blocked from your account.

Website of the Week

Painlessly Insert a Web Page to a PowerPoint Slide

There is a nifty add-in tool that you can use with PowerPoint to not only instantly add a web page to a PowerPoint slide but also dynamically refresh that page each time your run the slide show. This tool is called LiveWeb and it is a free add-in to PowerPoint. To use LiveWeb you must first download and install it from: http://skp.mvps.org/liveweb.htm

Just follow the instructions on the page and you will add this tool in minutes. This works with any open web page - however unfortunately I wasn't able to get it to work for an internal WebCT course page or a Pipeline course page because of the password-protected nature of these pages. No matter what WebCT or Pipeline course page I chose, I only got a picture of the login page. You'll still have to use a screen capture tool like SnagIt or PrintScreen for password-protected sites.

However, LiveWeb will work with a faculty web page or any other open web page. This would be great as an initial orientation to  your faculty web or to specific web pages you want your students to use. Give it a try and you'll be impressed!
