Options for Controlling Slides in a PowerPoint Show
Did you know that there are some quick shortcuts you can use when you are doing a PowerPoint presentation that work even without a mouse? Kathy Beauchene from the English Department has suggested these tips that she has found helpful in the classroom or at a conference. All these shortcuts work when you are already in Show view.

| To go to a specific Slide <number> |
Type the number of the slide and press
ENTER For example to go to Slide 5 in a presentation, type the
number 5 on the keyboard and press the Enter key.

To go to a Black/Unblack Screen (This is a great attention getter) |
Press b or a Period (.) to go to a
black screen Press b or Period again to toggle back to the normal show window |
| To go to a White/Unwhite Screen |
Press w or Comma (,) to go to a white screen Press w or Comma (,) again to toggle back to a normal window |
| To Show/Hide Pointer | Press a or = |
| To open to Slide Show | Press the F5 key |
| To End Show without going through all the slides |
Press the ESC key Or Press CTRL key + Break key, or Press the Minus (-) symbol or Press the END key (goes to last slide in presentation) |
| To erase Screen Annotations | Press e on the keyboard |
| To advance to a Hidden Slide | Press h on the keyboard |
| To advance to the Next Slide - lots of choices! |
Click the left mouse button Or Press the Spacebar Or Press n on the keyboard Or Press the Right Arrow key Or Press the Down Arrow key Or Press the Page Down key |

Another nifty tip that comes from Norm Grant suggests that when you save your PowerPoint presentation save it as a .pps or in PowerPoint Show format. This allows you to open directly into Show view and hide the edit view. To do this:
Open your PowerPoint presentation
Go to File - Save As
Click on the drop-down arrow next to Save as Type: and choose PowerPoint Show (*.pps)
That's it!
