Composing a message and adding an attachment
You can send WebCT mail messages with an
attachment. Keep in mind that this
message is going only to the WebCT mail accounts and you must log
in to your WebCT course in order to see them.
- Click on the Mail link from the Homepage,
Course Menu or Organizer Page.
The Mail
screen is displayed.
- Click on the Compose message button.
The
Compose Mail Message screen is displayed.

- Click on the top Browse... button. A window appears containing a list
of course participants.
- Click on the name of the person you are sending a message to. You may
select more than one person at a time to send a mail message to by holding
down the Ctrl key and using your mouse to click on the required names. To
select the whole list click on the first name, hold down the Shift key,
scroll down to the bottom of the list and click on the last name. The whole
list should now appear highlighted.
- Click on the Select button. The WebCT ID of the person or
persons you
are sending the message to are pasted into the Send to text box.
- Type in the subject of the message in the Subject text box.
- Type a message in the Message text box.
- Click on the Browse button for Attachments to attach a
file to your message. The File upload / Choose file screen
will appear.
- Locate and click on the filename you want to attach to your message.
- Click on the Open button. The filename is pasted into the text
box to the left of the Browse button.

- Click on the Attach file button. The attached file appears
beneath the Attachments text box.
- To test, click on the filename of the attachment. A new window opens.

- Click on the filename to view it. Certain files like html files and txt files display in the right frame of the window. Files with other extensions may require you to download the file to view it in specific program, like Word. If you want to assure that your students will be able to view a text document in most word processing programs, remember to save it as Rich Text Format when you are in Word.
- Click on the Close button. The Compose Mail Message screen reappears.
- Click on the Send button when you have completed the message.
