Organizing Files in Your WebCT Course
The designer can add an Organizer Page to the Homepage to group materials or tools together. Organizer pages are used to avoid the Homepage from getting overcrowded and cluttered.
For example the designer can:
- Create an Organizer Page called 'PowerPoint Presentations', and then add all the WebCT PowerPoint files within that Organizer Page.
- Create a Content Organizer Page that can have a number of content modules added to it.
- Create a Communication Organizer Page that contains all the communication tools in WebCT.
To add an Organizer Page:
- Click on the Add page or tool button from the Homepage.
-
Select the Organizer Page option from the Pages column
-
Enter a descriptive title for the Organizer Page in the text box provided.
The designer may choose whether to place the link on the Course Menu (where it will appear as texton the bar on the left) or on an Organizer Page (where it will appear as a title and an icon, an icon only or as a title only).
Select where you want the link to appear:
- Click on the check box to the left of On the Course Menu if you want to place the link on the Course Menu.
OR
Click on the check box to the left of On an Organizer Page, and
Select which Organizer Page you want to place this link on from the drop-down menu. You can select both if you wish.
If you only selected the Course Menu in step 4, jump to step 10. If you selected an Organizer Page in step 4, carry on with step 5.
- Select the way you want the link to display.
As a title only (check the box to the left of the Link shows item title).
OR
As a title and an icon (check the box to the left of the Link shows item title and Link shows icon)
OR
As an icon only (check the box to the left of the Link shows icon).
Note: Remember that some students may turn the graphics off in their browser and therefore it is always good for a link to be displayed in text, as well as an icon or in text only and not just as an icon.
If the designer is going to use an icon for the link, there is a choice of using the default icon, or selecting your own icon.- Select the radio button to the left of either Use default icon or Use custom icon. If you select Use default icon, jump to step 10.
- Click on the Browse button. The File Browser screen displays.
- Select the file you want to add as the icon for the Organizer Page link.
- Click on the Add selected button. The filename of the icon is pasted into the Choose icon text box.
- Click on the Add button. The Organizer Page is added.
