Adopting a WebCT E-pack

Six Steps to Success:

Adopt the e-Pack

If you are comfortable using WebCT, adopting your course 4 to 6 weeks prior to the beginning of the term gives you adequate time to familiarize yourself with the e-Pack and to make any customizations.

Visit www.webct.com/contentsearch. Choose the ‘Adopt Now’ link for the e-Pack you have selected.

Complete the Adoption Request form and be sure to include the WebCT administrator’s contact information in the appropriate section (ngrant@ccri.edu).

Complete CCRI’s WebCT Course Application form at:

http://it.ccri.edu/forms/webct_course_application.htm so that a course shell will be created for your course content on CCRI’s WebCT server.

If you are re-using a previously adopted e-Pack, send e-mail to Norm Grant (ngrant@ccri.edu) or Gene Grande (ggrande@ccri.edu) with the Course ID and the e-Pack title, author and publisher.

Contact your publisher sales rep– Get this very important information:

Obtain the ISBN for the packaged Textbook + Access Code.

Obtain the ISBN for stand-alone Access Codes (for students who purchase their textbooks from another source)

Notify the bookstore

And/or department chair that you plan to teach with this product and ensure the correct products are ordered using the ISBNs above. Confirm the bookstore has the textbook + Access Code package available in the store 1 week prior to course start.

Prepare your course

Become comfortable with the content, tools, features, and browser settings.

Customize your course to include your syllabus, calendar, announcements, and other personal information.

Add a sample student account so you may view the e-Pack as a student would. Request a test access code at http://www.webct.com/service/ViewContent?contentID=8694449, then ask Norm Grant or Gene Grande for assistance in setting up the student account.

Identify any plug-ins or players students will need for this e-Pack and make them accessible via links.

Enable self registration

Do this a few days before school starts so that students can start registering for your course. Directions at: http://it.ccri.edu/Documentation/webct/SelfRegistration.shtml

Plan an orientation session (or information campaign) for your students.

Give them clear instructions on how to log in to your course, and how to purchase the correct Textbook + Access Code package at the bookstore (if applicable).

Note: If this e-pack is to be used for a fully online course, get address labels for your students’ home addresses from Enrollment Services and mail out initial instructions before school starts. Include a copy of the Student Log-in to WebCT handout at: http://it.ccri.edu/Documentation/WebCT_Students/handout.shtml
