Starting a New Semester in WebCT
At the end of each semester you should perform some maintenance chores on your WebCT course accounts. First, you may want to save to disk, or print out a copy, of your student grade book and any other student work (Discussions, Mail messages etc.) you wish to save from the semester. (CCRI requires instructors to maintain three years’ worth of student grades.) Saving each of these pieces separately will give you a file that you can easily open for review.
It is also a good idea to back up your entire course and save the file to a zip disk, CD, or floppy disk (if it will fit) and store it in a safe place. Backing up your full course allows you to keep a complete record of that semester if ever needed.
Once you have saved all your data, you will want to reset your course. Resetting your course will wipe out all the variable data for the semester, i.e. student roster, mail messages, discussion board, student presentations, chat sessions, etc. The rest of your course will be left intact.
Note: If you are not planning to use a particular course that is listed in your account please notify Norm Grant at ngrant@ccri.edu or Gene Grande at ggrande@ccri.edu to remove it from the server or move it to an inactive folder. This helps us conserve space on the server and keeps our course listing current.
Follow these steps at the end of every semester for best results:
