Why am I unable to open email or a calendar?
If you are experiencing a problem opening email or a calendar, check to see if you have a pop-up blocker or a Google or Yahoo Toolbar (Companion). Yahoo Instant Messenger is an indicator that you have the Yahoo Toolbar installed. Common locations for a pop-up blocker include: Windows with SP2, ISPs such as AOL, MSN and Earthlink, search toolbars such as Yahoo, WebSearch and Google, and certain browsers such as Netscape as well as Norton Internet Security and McAfee Security Suite software which you will need to turn off.
To turn off the pop-up blocker, click on Tools on the Internet Explorer menu bar and click on Pop-up Blocker to turn it off. For toolbars such as Google or Yahoo Companion, click on View on the Internet Explorer menu bar and select Toolbars and click on the toolbar name.
I am getting debug errors when trying to access email within Pipeline, what do I have to do?

Will I be able to keep my Pipeline email address after I graduate?
Yes. Your PIPELINE account will stay active for another two years and can be accessed anywhere there is an internet connection.
How can I find the email address of anyone/someone within the CCRI community?
Please follow the steps outlined below:
- Log in to your Pipeline account
- Click on the e-mail icon
- Click on the Compose button as if you were going to send a new message
- Click on the grey Address button to the right of the To: field.
- By default, Pipeline looks at your Personal Address book. To switch to CCRI's entire e-mail address database, click on the drop-down arrow next to Address Source and choose Campus Email Directory
- Next to the Search For box, click on the drop-down arrow and choose Last Name in order to narrow your search and type in the last name of the person you are searching for in the next box (spelling counts!). Note: If you're not sure how to spell the whole name you can also type in the first letter of their last name followed by an asterisk * and this will bring up all the last names in the database that begin with this letter.
- Click on the Search button to start the search (note that this may take a few seconds)
- A list will appear with all the people with the last name you selected. Scroll down the list to locate the correct person. Notice under the Action column next to each name you will see three selections: To, CC (carbon copy) and BCC (blind carbon copy). Click on the link to the correct field, for example if you want the selected person's address to appear in the To: field in your mail message, click on the green "To" under Actions.
- Click on OK. You will see the person's address appear in the To field of your new message. Then just type in your message and Send with a certainty that you have the right information to get your message to the right destination.
Can I block my e-mail address from the Campus Email Directory?
Yes you may, as explained below.
- Select E-mail
- Select the Options tab
- Select Address Book Preferences
- Select Exclude me in directory search
- Click OK
Why do I get "Session Expired" when I try to open the Pipeline email window and then Pipeline logs me out?
If you have any add-on toolbars such as a Yahoo Companion or Google installed on your browser and the pop-up blocker is enabled, you will need to disable it as Pipeline uses pop-up windows.
Disable the Pop-up Blocker
If you are using IE 6.0 on Windows XP SP2, you can manage pop-ups on the Tools menu.
- Go to the Tools menu, and click Internet Options...
- Go to the Privacy tab. At the bottom of the page, see the box next to "Block pop-ups". If the box is checked, you are blocking pop-ups.
- Click the box to uncheck it and thereby unblock pop-ups--the state you want to be in when using Pipeline.
- If the box is already unchecked, leave it alone. Click OK to close the Internet Options window.

Why am I unable to open attachments in Pipeline mail?
There are several different reasons why you may not be able to open attachments:
- Usually this happens when you do not have the appropriate software application on your PC to open the file. For example, if the attached file is an Excel file, you need Excel on your PC to open it.
- In this case you will need to reply to the sender asking him/her to resend the attachment as well as informing you as to how the file was created. If you know the document is a word processor file, let the author know which word processing program you are using. He/she can probably easily translate and send the attachment back to you. If the file is a graphic and it is either a jpg or gif, your browser should be able to open it.
If you do have the appropriate software installed on your pc, then you may want to check your browser settings
- Open Internet Explorer
- From the menu, select Tools
- Select Internet Options
- Click on the Security tab
- Click on Custom Level
- Scroll down about 1/3 of the way and under Automatic prompting for file downloads, click in the circle in front of Enable.
- Click OK at the bottom of the box to save the change
- Click OK again to close the dialog box.

When I try to download an attachment I am getting a message that Internet Explorer "blocked this site from downloading files to your computer". How can I fix this?
To correct the problem, you will need to add CCRI as a trusted site and enable file downloads.
- Open Internet Explorer
- Click on Tools from the menu
- Click on Internet Options
- Click on the Security tab
- Click on Trusted Sites
- Click on the Sites button
- In the Add this Web site to the zone field type in: *.ccri
- Click Add
- Click Close
From the Security tab click the Custom Level button
- Scroll down to the Automatic prompting for file downloads option and change it to Enable
- Click OK
- Click Yes
- Click OK
If you still have an Attachment window open, close it, then reopen the attachment.
I have an email attachment that is a winmail.dat file, what is this?
Many times you might receive an email with an attachment called winmail.dat. The file is sent from people using Microsoft Outlook as their email program. The original sender is sending email in Microsoft Outlook Rich Text Format instead of Plan Text format.
The sender will have to turn off Rich Text format in Microsoft Outlook following the steps outlined below:
- Click on Tools
- Click Options, and then click the Mail Format tab.
- In the Send in this Message Format list, select Plain Text, and then click OK.
This will set the default sending method to Plain Text, which will lose the special formatting options with fonts, colors, etc. However everyone, no matter what email program they are using, will now be able to receive email with no problems.
You may want to ask the sender to resend the attachment after making the above changes.
Why am I getting a blank white screen when I to open a PDF file that was sent as an attachment?
Some PDF's use security features that may not run in older versions. Try disabling the Display PDF in browser which will allow you to open PDF's outside the browser.
- Open Adobe Reader
- Click on Edit in the menu
- Select Preferences
- Select Internet
- Under Web Browser Options remove the checkmark in front of "Display PDF in browser"
- Click OK
- Close Adobe Reader and your browser
- Reopen the browser and try opening the PDF file
- When selecting the PDF file this time, you may get a window asking what you want to do with the file.
- Select Open and a second window should open and display the PDF file.
I am getting a lot of spam and I thought CCRI blocked spam.
We block viruses and unsolicited bulk e-mail messages to the best of our ability, without interfering with legitimate e-mail traffic.
I can't get to the scroll bar, my email window is not centered and/or partially off of the screen, how can I fix this?
- Double click on the Title Bar (bar at the top of the e-mail window) that will contain the text, E-Mail Center, to maximize the window.
or
- Drag the window to where you can view its contents by clicking once on the blue bar at the top of the Compose Message window.
Why do I receive the following message from the postmaster when trying to send email to someone?
Recipient address: user@ims-ms-daemon
Original address: user@ccri.edu
Reason: Over quota
This is because the person you are emailing is over his/her email quota limit. That individual needs to delete some of the email (in the INBOX and empty the Deleted folder) before any new email can be received. It might be a good idea to let personally notify the individual in person or via phone that email sent to them is being bounced back to the sender.
Why can I receive mail from others but not my instructor or an individual user?
You may have inadvertently block email from your instructor or another individual.
- Log into Pipeline and click on the Email icon
- Click on the Options tab
- Click on Blocked Addresses
- See if your instructor's email address or another user is in the Blocked Addresses box.
- If it is, click on the address to select it with your mouse.
- Click on Remove. You should no longer see the email address in the Blocked Address box.
Can I change my e-mail address?
No. Pipeline automatically assigns everyone an e-mail address that can't be altered.
Is there a limit to the number of files I can attach to an email message?
Yes. You can attach up to 20 files to an email message.
Is there a limit to the file size of an attachment?
Yes. The attached file cannot exceed 25 megabytes.
How do I send a file that is in a format that is currently being excluded by our E-mail Security Gateway?
If you need to send a file in a format that is currently being excluded by the Gateway (for example, an executable - .exe, an Active Server page - .asp, or a Visual Basic file - .vbs) you should zip the file before attaching it to your message. Do not change the extension to an accepted format (like .txt) as that will often result in a garbled file. For instructions on how to zip a file, see Using WinZip to Compress a File. If you need help with this option, please call the Help Desk at 825-1112.
Is there a plain text option when sending message using Pipeline?
No, all messages sent using Pipeline will be formatted as HTML. This is a widely used standard and should not cause compatibility problems with other mail systems.
