Configuring Outlook 2007 to retrieve Pipeline e-mail

Microsoft Outlook is a comprehensive desktop information management program. You can use Outlook as a central inbox for all of your internal and external e-mail messaging systems. You can also use it to manage your contacts, to organize your calendar and scheduling, and to maintain a journal of your activities. Additionally, Outlook integrates a number of system management features that help you manage your files, folders, and system resources.
You can set up your Outlook account to retrieve your  Pipeline e-mail by following these steps:

Step 1

Open Outlook, click on Tools from the menu and select Account Settings

The E-mail Accounts screen will open where you can add or remove an account.  From the E-mail tab, click on New...

The Choose E-mail Service window will open.  The default is set to "Microsoft Exchange, Pop3, IMAP, or HTTP."  Click Next

From the Auto Account Setup screen, click in the box in front of Manually configure server settings or additional server types.  Click Next.

Internet E-mail is the default setting on the Choose E-mail Service.  Click Next

To add a new e-mail account:

Under User Information enter the following information:

  • Your Name:  Type in your first name and your last name
  • Email Address:  Type in your Pipeline e-mail address which is username@ccri.edu where username is your username (often first initial last name)

Under Server Information enter the following information:

  • Incoming mail server (IMAP): type mail.ccri.edu
  • Outgoing mail server (SMTP):  type mail.ccri.edu

Under Logon Information enter the following information:

  • User Name: type in your Pipeline username
  • Next to Password:  type in your Pipeline 6-digit password
    (If you are working on your home machine you may click next to Remember Password. If you are sharing the computer it is best not to check it.)

Please note:  if your are configuring Outlook on your home pc, you will need to check with your internet service provider for their outgoing mail server and you will not need to set the outgoing server to authenticate.

Step 7
Click on the Outgoing Server tab and select My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication.  Click in the circle in front of Use same settings as my incoming mail server (for on-campus use only).

If you wish to leave a copy of the messages on the server so that you can view them in Pipeline as well as Outlook, click on the Advanced tab.  Under  the Delivery option, click in the box in front of Leave a copy of messages on the server.  Click OK.
You will be returned to the Internet E-mail Settings screen, click the Next button.

Step 9
Congratulations your are done, just click the Finish button to exit the wizard.
