Creating Web Pages from Templates

To keep the templates from being changed, they have been locked with Source Control (see tutorial). This means that the actual template is checked out, and can not be altered by any user.  The template is still accessible for creating pages via a read-only copy. This tutorial will give step by step instruction to enable users to create their web pages using the predesigned templates.

All of the templates for the college website have been locked. This has been done to protect the format of the templates.

You can still open a copy of the template you need by double-clicking on it, and using the following steps beginning with Step 2.

When you click to open the Template file, you will be prompted to open a read only copy.

By clicking on Yes, you will open a copy of the original page.

You can type in changes to setup your page for you. For example the page title, breadcrumb, and headline will need to reflect your page.

*NOTE: The changes cannot be saved to the template. They can be saved by creating a new page as shown in Step 3.

From here, you want to save your page to the site. To do this Click on File, then Save As...

In the Save As window, you will select where you want the file in your site, and the name for the file. Then click on the Save button.

From this point, you can continue to make changes to the page or close it.

*NOTE: When you close the file, you will not be asked to check it in. However, you will need to check it out to reopen it.(see Step 5)

The page will need to be checked from now on when you want to open it.
