Create a Single Web Page from a Template
A great way to get started in creating your first web page is to use the CCRI pre-designed faculty web page template. This template has been designed by CCRI's web manager Jim Kirby with all the best practices for web design in mind and is easy to use. You don't need to learn HTML and you'll find that FrontPage has many similarities to Word that will make it comfortable for you to use.
To get started you need to:
- Apply online for a web account if you do not already have one - How? Note that you'll also need a CCRI domain account to access the faculty web server - Apply for a domain account
- Verify that FrontPage 2003 is installed on your computer by clicking on the Start button and looking in the Programs list. (If you need it installed on your office computer please call the Help Desk at 825-1112 and put in your request.) Faculty may also borrow a copy of both the Microsoft Office 2003 and the Microsoft FrontPage 2003 program disks from the library at any campus in order to install the program on their home computer.
- Read the CCRI Web Acceptable Use Policy
- Define your goals for your web page - How?
- Assemble your content (gather together all the electronic copies of any documents, graphics, etc. that you want to include on your page)
- Convert all content (text documents, graphics, etc.) to web-ready format - How?
- Open your web account in FrontPage - How?
- Open the template in FrontPage - How?
- Replace the sample text with your own information - How?
- Re-save the page - How?
- Preview in a browser (Internet Explorer or Netscape) to make sure it is what you want by selecting File - Preview in Browser.
- Send e-mail to helpdesk@ccri.edu with your faculty web address (also referred to as a Uniform Resource Locator or URL) and ask to be added to the Faculty Web Index.
Congratulations! You've created your first web page and developed an
additional resource for your students.
