Creating a Home Page

If you would prefer to create a home page with your own design you can ignore the template and start from scratch. To get started you need to:

Apply online for a web account if you do not already have one - How? Note that you'll also need a CCRI domain account to access the faculty web server - Apply for a domain account

Verify that FrontPage is installed on your computer by clicking on the Start button and looking in the Programs list. (If you need it installed on your office computer please call the Help Desk at 825-1112 and put in your request.) Faculty may also borrow a copy of both the Microsoft Office 2003 and the Microsoft FrontPage 2003 program disks from the library at any campus in order to install the program on their home computer.

Read the CCRI Web Acceptable Use Policy

Define your goals for your web page - How?

Assemble your content  (gather together all the electronic copies of any documents, graphics, etc. that you want to include on your page)

Convert all content (text documents, graphics, etc.) to web-ready format - How?

Open your web account in FrontPage on the web server - How?

Open a new page if one is not already open - How?

Save your page as index.shtml* and change the page title to a meaningful description of your page (i.e. Professor Wilson's Home Page). How?
Note that your homepage must be named index in order to be recognized. Note that the template file that is added to every faculty web folder when initially created is also called index.shtml so you may get a prompt that your file will overwrite this file. Just answer OK if this happens.

Add a simple one-cell table in order to constrain your content in a printable form -  How?

Start typing in your information.

Tell me about different typefaces (fonts)
Tell me about  text and background colors.
Tell me about page layout

Add a signature footer to your page. How?

Save your work by clicking on File - Save.

Send e-mail to helpdesk@ccri.edu with your faculty web address (also referred to as a Uniform Resource Locator or URL) and ask to be added to the Faculty Web Index.

Congratulations! You've created your first home page!

*Oops! If you have named your home or main page something other than index.htm, index.shtml or default.htm it is easy to rename it. Simply close your file and then right-click on the file in the file list. Choose Rename from the menu list and type in the correct name.
