Creating a New Page in FrontPage

To create a new page in FrontPage:

  1. Open your web account in FrontPage on the web server - How?
  2. Click on File - New - Page...

A page will open in the window to the right of the file list with a heading: new_page_1.htm

  1. Click on  File - Save As...
  2. Type in a descriptive file name in the box marked File name:  (Note: do not include spaces or special characters in your file name. The simpler the better. If you must separate words, use an _ (or Shift hyphen -) in place of a space.)
  3. Click on the Change... button next to PageTitle and type in a descriptive name for your new page (for example: Fall Syllabus for COMI 1100). This title will appear in the browser window when users open your page and also will become a bookmark if a student adds your page to their bookmarks or favorites folder.
  4. Click on the Save button. You should now see the new name appear at the top of the document window and also in the file list on the left.
  5. Add a simple one-cell table in order to constrain your content in a printable form -  How?
  6. Start typing in your information.
  7. Add a signature footer to your page. How?

Linking your new page

Once the file is created, it now must be linked so that students can find it.

  1. Open the page you wish to add a link to by double-clicking on the filename in the Folder list (if it is your main homepage, it should be called index.htm or index.shtml)
  2. Type some descriptive text so that students know what file will open when they click on it (for instance type the word Syllabus that will be linked to your syllabus file).
  3. Select the text that you wish to link the document to by dragging over it with your mouse
  4. Select Insert - Hyperlink... from the menu bar or click on the hyperlink button in the button bar
  5. Browse to the document in your web folder list and click on it to select it. The filename should appear in the URL box
  6. Click on OK
