Upload and Link an Existing Document to a Web Page
If the file you wish to add to your web page already exists, you can upload it to your web folder and link it right in to your page.
Make sure your document has been converted to .htm or .pdf format if you want it immediately viewable on the web, or .rtf if you want students to be able to open it in any word processor.
Log in to your faculty folder on the faculty web server
Make sure the folder at the top of the file list on the left is selected in blue (should look like: http://faculty.ccri.edu/jdoe) by clicking on it once. (Note: if you don't see a file list on the left, click on View - Folder List on the menu bar)
Click on File - Import from the menu bar
Choose the Add File button
Browse to the file you wish to upload and click on it once. Then click on the Open button.
Click on OK. You should now see you file listed in the list of files on the left.
Once the file is copied (or uploaded) into your faculty web folder, it now must be linked so that students can find it.
Open the page you wish to add a link to by double-clicking on the filename in the Folder list (if it is your main homepage, it should be called index.htm or index.shtml)
Type some descriptive text so that students know what file will open when they click on it (for instance type the word Syllabus that will be linked to your syllabus file).
Select the text that you wish to link the document to by dragging over it with your mouse
Select Insert - Hyperlink... from the menu bar or click on the hyperlink button in the button bar
Browse to the document in your web folder list and click on it to select it. The filename should appear in the URL box
Click on OK
Your text should now appear in a different color, denoting it as a link
To test it, save your file and then click on the Preview tab at the bottom of the window and then click on the linked text. Your document should open up.
