Introduction to Discoverer
Discoverer is a reporting tool that is used to run reports from Banner. A few key people in most departments have access to Discoverer to run the reports to which they have security access. This is an introductory tutorial that includes how to:
Run the report with different parameters
Run another report in the same workbook
Step 1 Navigate to the Discoverer LinkOpen Internet Explorer and go to the Banner page. Click on the Discoverer Login link in the upper left corner |

Step 2 Start DiscovererA separate browser window will open with the Discoverer start page. Click on the image of the magnifying glass to start Discoverer. The first time you use Discoverer on your computer, some software needs to be installed. Click yes or install to all of the prompts. |

Step 3 Login to DiscovererOnce Discoverer starts, you should get a Connect to Oracle Discoverer box where you can log in. Enter your Banner username and password in the appropriate area. In the Database area enter Dora, then click connect. |

Step 4 Choose a Discoverer WorkbookA box should open with a list of Workbooks that you have access to. A workbook may contain several reports. Click on the Workbook that you want to run. Then click on Open to open the Workbook. |

Step 5 Enter parameters for the reportIf the report requires that you enter parameter values before running, for example to run the report for a specific term, you will be prompted to enter these values. The name of the report that is selected in the workbook will appear light grey at the bottom of the page. If this is the report that you want to run, enter the appropriate values and click ok. If this is not the report that you want to run, click cancel and then click on the tab of the report that you want to run. |

Step 6 Navigate through the reportUse the arrow keys in the bottom left portion of the screen to scroll through the pages of the report. |

Step 7 Run the report with different parametersTo run the report for a different set of parameter values, for example for fall term instead of summer term, choose Sheet….Edit Parameter Values from the menu bar and put in the new values when prompted for them. Then click OK to run the report (see step 5). |

Step 8 Run another report in the same workbookTo run another report that is in the same workbook, click on the tab of the desired report at the bottom of the page. You may be prompted to enter parameters for this report. |

Step 9 Open another workbookTo open another workbook choose File…..Open from the menu. A box may open that tells you that you can’t save the report. Click yes to continue. You will see the Open Workbook from Database box with the available reports listed (see Step 4) where you can choose the workbook to open. |

Step 10 Print the reportTo print a report that you are already viewing, choose File.....Print from the menu. |

Step 11 Print Wizard Step 1The Print Wizard box will open. Click Next to keep the default options. |

Step 12 Print Wizard Step 2If your report uses parameters, you will be prompted to enter parameters. You may change them here if you'd like the printed report to be different than what you're looking at. Otherwise, keep them the same. Click Next. |

Step 13 Print Wizard Step 2The last Print Wizard box will open. Click Finish to keep the default of Supervised. |

Step 14 Select printer and optionsThe Print dialog box appears. Click the down arrow to select a printer other than your default printer. Then, click the properties button. |

Step 15 Select landscape printingThe printer properties dialog box for your printer will appear. Each property box may look different depending upon the printer. Choose the layout tab. Under Orientation, click on Landscape to print the report in landscape mode. Then click OK in the properties box and OK in the Print dialog box (see image above). Note: The landscape setting has to be done for every report printed if this is not the default option for your printer. |

Step 16 End your Discoverer sessionTo end your Discoverer session, choose File.....Exit from the menu. |

Step 17 Continue without savingA box may open that tells you that you can't save the report, just click yes to continue. |
